There are unclean spirits (strongmen) who are building disorderly houses (strongholds) within the minds of believers

Picture a disorderly house…several floors and additions

These houses (strongholds) can be pulled down, plundered and demolished.  The believer’s mind can be swept clean, renewed and put back in order.

Questions for this morning:

What are strongholds and strongmen?
How does a strongman build a stronghold within our minds?
How can we plunder the strongman’s house?

II Corinthians 10:3-5

We do not live with the facts of our lives but with the interpretation of the facts of our lives.

Five Sources of Strongholds

The World
Our Experiences
Giving a place for the devil
Wrong Doctrines
Counterfeit Spiritual Experiences

II Corinthians 10:4

The Greek word for “Stronghold” is:

Echo:  “To hold fast”
Ochuroma:  “Fortification, fortress”

II Cor. 10:5

The Greek word for “argument” is:

Logismos:  “Logical calculations, rationalizations, and reflections that determine our conduct.”

The Greek word for “High thing” is:

Hupsoma:  “Something made high and elevated to a high place”

These strongholds are deceptive.  They pretend to supply our every need:  Protection, comfort, aid, relief from stress, etc.

“That sets itself up against the knowledge of God.”

Greek:  epairo:  “To hoist up as a sail.  To lift up the eyes”

A Stronghold:

A logical calculation, rationalization and reflection that has been elevated to a place of prideful esteem and worship in our minds that determines our behavior and actions.”

Matthew 12:29
Matthew 12:43-45

A strong man is:

“…..an unclean spirit that seeks to build a house within your mind.  He is not satisfied to be alone but loves company and invites other unclean spirit to build their houses within the same compound.”
Psalm 69:20
